Poisons
Many people consider poisons to be an effective mice control option because it has the ability to kill any mouse that comes into contact with the poison. The poison can be in many forms, from liquids that look and taste like water to the mice to pellets that the mice think are food. Some people and pest control professionals do not like to use poison for mice control because of the fear of secondary poisoning, meaning that if a mouse’s natural predator came along and ate the poisoned mouse, the predator could become poisoned as well.
Traps
There are a number of different traps that may be considered an effective mice control option. One of the most popular types of traps is the snap trap, which is baited and then placed in an area where mice are known to travel. If the mouse takes the bait that is in the trap, the trap snaps shut with amazing force, killing the mouse instantly.
Some of the traps used for mice control are fairly simple, consisting of a metal bar and a spring loaded trigger that causes the metal bar to snap down on the back or the neck of the mouse. Other traps are more complex and require careful handling, typically from a trained professional, to make the trap work without the person setting the trap getting hurt. The choice of what trap to use is generally a personal choice because both types of traps are very effective.
Another option for effective mice control is a glue board trap. These traps are literally what they are named, with a long tray full of glue protected by a plastic sheet that is removed when placing the tray in a high traffic area for mice. The traps are then baited with something that the mice would like to eat to attract the mice onto the glue board where they will be stuck until someone comes to dispose of it.
These mice control products can generally be found in the pest control product section of your local home improvement store, mass merchandiser, or local grocery store. They are not very expensive to purchase and are effective mice control product if there are only a few mice in the home. For larger infestations, the homeowner may want to call for professional help in eliminating the problem.
