Unlike roach control, which can be accomplishing by spraying some chemical agents around the home, rat control requires a completely different approach. Rats are intelligent animals that can sense many types of danger and avoid it to stay alive. Handling a rat control problem can be a difficult pursuit if you do not know some successful methods of rat control.
Find Their Living Areas
The first step in successful rat control is to find out where the rats are living or where they are able to come into your home. Rats generally like quiet, dark areas to build their nests so you will be looking for a ball of fuzz and rat droppings in a dark area to determine where the rats are living. There may even be a trail of rat dropping leading from the area where they are stealing food back to where their nesting area is.
Choose Your Weapons
Once you have discovered where the rats have been living at, the second step of successful rat control is to choose the pest control items that you will use to get rid of the rats. There are a number of different options to choose from for effective rat control and the option that is chosen will depend on the area where the rodents are located and how accessible the area is for you. Certain types of pest control products are easier to place in small areas than others.
If the rats are in a larger, open area such as the attic of a home, then a snap trap might be the fasted and most effective option for getting rid of the rats. This method of rat control uses a baited trap with a spring-loaded lever that clamps the jaws of the trap shut when the bait is taken. These traps kill the rat immediately without subjecting the rat to undue suffering or prolonged agony in the trap.
If the rat is located in a narrow or enclosed area of the home, then a glue trap may be a better option for rat control. The glue trap is covered by a layer of plastic that is peeled away to expose a long tray filled with a thick, glue-like substance. If the rat steps onto the glue trap, he will be trapped as effectively as if he had stepped in quicksand and there is no hope for escape. The rat and the glue trap can be disposed of together in the trash tied into a plastic bag so that no other wildlife can get into it.

There are some times when a homeowner would not like to have to call a professional exterminator to handle a minor problem in their home. Instead of paying the hundreds of dollars that it would cost to have a professional come in and take care of the issue, many homeowners turn to common home pest control options to rid their home of pests. There are many different home pest control options for a homeowner to choose from and different situations call for different home pest control products.
Rodent Control
There are a number of different home pest control products available for homeowners that would like to get rid of rodents that have invaded their home. One of the most common types of products used for mice and rat control is the snap trap, which quickly springs shut when the rodent takes the bait to dispatch the rodent quickly and humanely. Glue traps may also be used for rodents that prove to be elusive and are very effective when placed in an area that sees a high volume of rodent traffic.
Another home pest control option for people that have rodents in their home is rodent poison. The poison can typically be purchased in pellet form, although there may be some liquid varieties available to the public as well. Poisoning the rodents is not recommended for households that have pets because of the risk of secondary poisoning if the pet eats the rodent that has ingested the poison.
Insect Control
There are many different home pest control products that can be used for getting rid of the insects in the home. Whether the insects have caused an infestation or you are looking to get rid of a few insects that you have seen crawling around, the technique for getting rid of the insects will be basically the same. Many people choose to use an insect spray for their home pest control because it allows the homeowner to target the exact area that they are concerned about and use as much or as little as the situation warrants.
Some people choose to use poisoned bait as their home pest control product of choice. This method is very effective for ant and roach infestations because it kills all of the insects in the colony, but it does take longer to work than using a spray to kill the insects that are in the immediate area. It is important to read the instructions on the back of the packaging to ensure that you are using the product correctly and placing it in the proper area for a maximum kill.

If you have a farm or your own home garden, you may be concerned about pest control. Bugs and pests are a natural part of the outdoors, so you can expect to have some on your farm or in your home garden. But before picking up harsh chemicals and pesticides to keep your farm or home garden insect free, think about using an organic pesticide or an organic insecticide.
Nutritional Benefits
Using organic pesticide has a definite nutritional benefit when compared to non organic pesticide. The nutritional value of any food is based on the mineral and vitamin content. Food that is grown using organic pesticide has a superior mineral content than its chemical pesticide counterpart. When organic pesticides are used instead of chemical pesticides, natural vitamins and minerals are not killed from the food. If you have healthy vegetables and foods that have not been marred by harsh chemicals, then the people eating them will also be healthy.
Using Poison Free Farming
Harsh chemicals are poison, while organic pesticide is a gentle way to keep your farm or home garden free from pests. A benefit of organic pesticide is that the food you grow will be free from contamination from pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. With the increased use of chemical pesticides, there has also been an increase in diseases associated to the exposure of toxic pesticide chemicals that are commonly used to keep pests off of our food. While many of the diseases (such as cancer), cannot be definitively linked to pesticides, we can be sure that if these pesticides are harsh enough to need a mask on when using them, you should not ingest them. And yet with these pesticides, we are ingesting trace amounts of them on our non organic food.
Organic Food Tastes And Keeps Better
Food grown and managed with organic pesticide simply tastes better. Harsh chemicals can change the makeup of the fruits and vegetables. Many believe that the taste of foods is directly related to their sugar content and that harsh chemical pesticides change this content. In addition, organic pesticide does not change the structural and metabolic integrity of the cells because the foods are nourished naturally. This means that the food will be able to be stored longer and will not mold or rot as quickly or easily as their counterparts.
So before you decide to spray harsh chemicals on your farm or in your garden, remember that there are countless reasons why organic pesticides are better for you and the environment.

If you have common household pests like sugar ants, you may want to find a do it yourself pest control method to get rid of them. Exterminators can be hundreds to thousands of dollars, but if you can take the time and effort to use a do it yourself pest control method, you can significantly cut the cost. Even if you use expensive organic pesticide, the price for doing it yourself can still be dramatically less than hiring a professional exterminator to rid you of the pests.
Do It Yourself Pest Control: Sugar Ants
These small ants can be very irritating and annoying to anyone. They seem to creep up out of nowhere and invade your home in seconds. If you leave any piece of food or crumb lying around on your counter, you will wake up in the morning with hundreds of the ants surrounding it. Thankfully though, these are also some of the easiest ants to control and a do it yourself pest control method works wonderfully with sugar ants.
The first step is to bait the inside of your home. Use bait gels or bait stations for this. The most effective ant traps are the liquid traps. In years past, the only ant traps were the ones where the ant brought the food back to the colony. With sugar ants, hundreds of them come out for something sweet, so instead try using a liquid trap that will draw them all out of the colony. While these indoor baits may exterminate an entire colony, they will not prevent other colonies from entering your home. That is why you need to make sure to follow through with the following steps with your do it yourself pest control.
The second step is to spray outside around your home’s foundation. Use a residual insecticide in order to actually repel the ants. It is best to apply a band of protection around your home that is two to three feet wide. Also, make sure that you go up two feet from the foundation and one foot away from the home to ensure maximum protection. In addition to the foundation, you also must treat your window frames and door frames, as these are often point of entries for sugar ants. Spray all pipes, electrical cables, and air conditioners as well as these are also common points of entry for sugar ants, and other pests as well.
The third and final step for do it yourself pest control for sugar ants is to make sure that you also exterminate the ant colonies in your yard. Ants travel constantly and can even forage and search for food hundreds of yards from their nest. The ant activity in your home may not be from a colony in your physical home, but in your yard. If you do not exterminate the nests, it is likely that the ants will find some way back into your home. Treat your grass and mulch areas with a product that holds up well in rain and sun. Also make sure that you use a long lasting product like Maxforce Insect Bait Granules that actually lasts two to three months per application.
If you follow these steps, your do it yourself pest control method for sugar ants should work wonders and keep your house ant free!

If you have pests or rodents in or around your home, you are more than likely searching for a way to eliminate the problem. If you live an actively green lifestyle, you may want to use an organic method for rodent control. However, in order to completely eliminate the rodent problem, you may have to stick with a low toxicity rodent control method as oppose to a completely organic do it yourself pest control method. Eliminating rodents is a difficult task, and most of the time purely organic methods do not control or eliminate the problem. Here are some ideas for low toxicity rodent control.
Inspection
The first part of rodent control is to find where the rodents are entering you building or residence. Local food sources like bird feeders, grass seed, and dog food may be unintentionally luring the rodents into your home or building. If you live in a pier or beam home and have a rat rodent control problem, common entrances for these rodents are open crawlspace vents and digging under the shallow footings of your home. In addition, utility line entrances like air conditioning, electricity, and gas lines are also common entrances for rodents. Roof vents, protected roof overhands, stack pipes, and gables are all common entrances for rodents into your home or building. If you see grease stains in any one of these areas, it is usually an indication that this is a heavily traveled path by rodents.
Once you have round where your rodent control problem is originating, patch the area to keep the rodents out. Hardware wire and expanding foam are very effective tools to patch the holes for rodent control in your home or building.
Removal Of Rodents
After you have found the entrance point and have patched or fixed that point of entry, you must focus on the removal of rodents for true rodent control on your home or building. A baiting or trapping program is the lowest toxicity way to remove your rodents. Snap traps offer an effective solution for rodent control, but some people do not feel comfortable actually killing the rodents. If you do not feel comfortable with exterminating the rodents and want a less invasive rodent control, try bait systems. Place these baits in active areas like the crawlspace or the attic, or other places where you know the rodents frequent.
Follow Up
Do not just place the trap and leave it. Make sure to follow up and check the bait or snap traps on a regular basis. You may need to add more bait or move the trap to another location if you have not caught anything in several days. After you have successful rodent control, make sure that you remove the baits in order to prevent an insect infestation.
If you follow these tips, you will be able to successfully remove your rodents with the least toxicity possible.

If you have termites, you may be tempted to call a pest remover and pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to have them completely eliminated from your home. However, professional termite removers offer pesticides for termite control. They use harsh chemicals to treat your home and the surrounding areas. Instead of using a professional who has these harsh and dangerous chemicals, try using organic termite control instead.
Why Use Organic Termite Control?
Organic termite control is better for the environment than pesticide treatment or extermination treatments. Organic termite control does not pollute the environment like regular chemicals do. They are not harmful to the good insects in the area (like pollinating bees or ladybugs who eat many other bugs), or to the people who are implementing the method. Because organic termite control focuses on using locally available materials instead of imported and expensive materials, organic termite control can be much cheaper than hiring a professional exterminator. In addition, using an organic method for termite control keeps the genetic diversity in the farming system. This is crucial to providing resistance for the bugs and pests that actually feed on termites. Many people do not realize that termites are actually beneficial in some ways, and organic termite control methods regulate termite numbers instead of completely eliminating the termite population. This keeps the benefits provided by the termites.
What Benefits Do Termites Have?
Termites are actually beneficial in some ways and organic termite control—not termite elimination—is crucial for handling your termite problem. Termites aerate the soil with their burrowing. The termites eating and digesting soil also breaks down and releases organic matter into the soil. Soil is more fertile when termite mounds (which are rich in minerals), are crushed and put back into the soil. If you live on a farm, you may want to keep some termites around because the termite mounds that cows love to lick are a source of minerals for those cattle. In addition, while not in more cultured areas, some countries use the clay termite mounds to make more resistant bricks than the normal sun dried clay.
How To Control Termites Organically
There are many natural methods for termite control (and even rodent control for that matter!). First, try adding organic material to the soil. Some types of termites thrive on eating the dead plant material in soil. If you have more organic materials than dead plant material, you may have the termites running to a tastier patch of soil. Another form of natural termite control is encouraging termite predators. Spiders, beetles, flies, and wasps are all natural termite predators. Other mammals such as aardvarks and monkeys are also termite predators. However, breeding and encouraging these insects and animals may not be a possibility, so you may need to use other natural forms of termite control to stop your termite problem!

You may be a very green person and try to do everything in your power to reduce your carbon footprint on the earth. You may drive hybrid vehicles or take public transportation, eat only organic food, grow your own food, and even keep a compost pile. However, you may still be concerned and frustrated with your pest problem. If you have any stagnant water or damp places, you may be looking for some way to control your mosquitoes. The following are three organic mosquito control methods. However, remember that damp places also breed termites and you may need some sort of organic termite control method in addition to an organic mosquito control method.
Mosquito Barrier Or Garlic Barrier
Mosquito Barrier and Garlic Barrier are two types of organic mosquito control. These products repel adult mosquitoes from where they usually live, most especially underneath leaves. It also kills the mosquito larvae when it is applied to a breeding area of stagnant water. You use this product by mixing one part Mosquito Barrier or Garlic Barrier with one hundred parts water. You can also purchase these products pre-diluted so you only have to use ten parts water to every one part product. After you mixed the water with the product, add one part canola or soy bean oil to make the product stick. Finally, add the correct amount of liquid dishwashing soap. Spray this mixture on the areas of your garden or yard where you have the most problems with mosquito control. Make sure to spray areas where mosquitoes are known to rest, like plants, foliage, and undersides of leaves. The best time to spray is early morning or late afternoon. Please note that this mixture can also kill bees, so do not spray on any area where you need pollination.
Mosquito Control Larvicide
This organic mosquito control product kills the larvae and pupa stages of mosquitoes and is specifically designed for application to intermittently flooded areas, sloughs, log ponds, and temporary rain pools where festering water can create a breeding ground for mosquitoes. This organic mosquito control product does not leave a filmy oil or residue in the environment, and the active ingredients are simply mineral oil and inert materials. This product can be used year round and is effective during all seasons. Making the mixture is simple: simply mix with water as the instructions say, and apply.
DEET-Free Botanical Gel
The third type of organic mosquito control is DEET-Free Botanical Gel. This is organic mosquito control for your body. Simply apply this product every four hours to your exposed skin. It will organically control mosquitoes and other biting insects. The ingredients include neem oil, Aloe Vera, and other natural ingredients.
If you chose to use organic methods for mosquito control, you can rest assured knowing that you are not leaking any harmful pesticides into the environment and that you are doing your best to keep the environment safe for years to come.

If you are trying to be “green” to help keep the earth as beautiful and clean as possible for future generations, you are doing a great thing. You may drive only hybrid vehicles, use public transportation, and buy organic foods from the grocery store. However, you may not be doing enough. Did you kill that wasp nest near your house this summer with pest spray from the store? Did you keep your lawn green and weed free with pesticides? If you answered yes to these questions or can think of another situation where you used a chemical pest spray or pesticide, you may want to rethink your decision. Instead of using harsh chemicals, use organic pest control to keep the pesky bugs and weeds at bay.
What’s Wrong With Harsh Chemicals
The exposure from pesticides has been linked to countless health problems and diseases. Infertility, cancer, birth defects, Parkinson’s disease, encephalitis, and lymphoma have been linked to pesticide exposure. The biggest problem is that the government does not have laws and regulations for companies to test these lawn (and often time home garden) pesticides like pesticides for commercially grown food are tested. Even the Center for Disease Control has several documented cases where farm workers have gotten ill after being exposed to certain lawn pesticides. Using these pesticides around your house as pest control is far from organic pest control. Using an organic pest control will not put your family at risk—a harsh chemical pesticide that is not government regulated can harm you or your family.
Not using organic pest control also puts the environment at risk. Organic pest control is less harsh and does not harm the environment. Non organic pest control like pesticides contaminate the plants, soil, air, water, and animals in the area. Lawn chemicals can, and do, seep into the water table and can contaminate your well. Many studies have shown that harsh pesticides can harm honeybees and ladybugs, two insects that are crucial to the insect and plant world. Many rivers have been completely contaminated by nearby farms where the chemicals run off into the water. If the chemicals can harm people, animals, and insects, you have to wonder how the food you eat from your home garden are even safe if you do not use organic pest control.
No matter what you need the organic pest control for, be it mosquito control, termite control, or wasp control, please think of mother earth and chose organic pest control for your lawn and home garden.

If you have a home garden, you may be finding yourself in need of some way to control those insects. However, the reason you have a home garden is so that you can have organically grown vegetables for your dinner table. You do not want to call a pest control service or use harsh chemicals on your organic food. Instead of turning to these chemical options, try using an organic insecticide or other low to non toxic solutions.
Organic Insecticide Options
A water spray is a cheap organic insecticide. Instead of using any chemicals at all, sturdy plants can easily withstand a high pressured stream of water. Simply shower the plants periodically, making sure to direct the spray to the undersides of the leaves. This method is very effective in reducing small insects like aphids and mites. If these spider mites and aphids are dislodged from the plant, most often they do not return to the plant.
Another organic option is to try hand picking. This is not for the timid or squeamish gardener, but it can be extremely effective against large insects like tomato hornworms, stink bugs, squash bugs, and many other beetles. This method is most effective if you start at the very beginning of the season and do it religiously. With this organic insecticide method, you simply remove the bugs from the plants and either dunk them in a can of diesel fuel or squash the bug with your shoe or other object.
If these organic methods are not working, you may need to try a true organic insecticide and not just an organic insecticide option.
Organic Insecticides
One organic insecticide uses the disease Bacillus Thuringiensis to control caterpillar larvae, armyworms, loopers, hornworms, and webworms. After the larvae eat the insecticide, they will stop eating and become ill and subsequently die. Another organic insecticide is Rotenone. This is a plant derived organic insecticide that is made from several types of tropical plants. It is very effective on thrips and other types of beetles. In addition, you can use organic insecticide soap. This is effective against many different types of insects, and these soaps have been used since the early 1800’s to control insect populations.
Using organic insecticides or insecticide options will make your garden a safer place for you to grow food. Instead of worrying about pesticide contamination in your food or water, you can safely grow your own vegetables, insect free!
